Due to increased environmental requirements, Bengt Lundin AB (today Trioworld) had to increase the purification of the VOCs that were emitted from their production of plastic bags. The company has produced 850 million plastic consumer bags to all the major general dealers in Sweden and Norway.

– We looked into an RTO solution. But it had a significantly higher operational cost. Zeolite was new to us but it gave us the possibility to recycle heat from the system to heat our facility. It actually give us a positive operational cost equal to almost 25 000 Euro every year, says Lars Lundin.

But its not only the recycling of heat that adds to the cost effectiveness.

– The zeolite system is more adaptable to our production volume. The RTO solution would have a constant high energy consumption no matter the production volume,

Availability with the Zeolite system is well over 99% which is impressive considering that Bengt Lundin’s production runs around the clock almost every day year around.

– Yes, we only have 50 hours of stop in a year. And almost all of those hours are planned downtime during holidays and such. We haven’t had any problems with the system – it simply works.

To pass the environmental requirements are no problems at all. To choose Zeolite was just a great decision.

– Looking back, we definitely did the right thing. Colleagues in the industry that chose sandboxes when the new environmental requirements came have had much higher operational costs – in addition to higher maintenance costs due to production disturbances from the sandboxes, says Lars Lundin

Scandiflex prints packaging material on rolls to the food industry and their turnover is about 16 million Euros per year. Previously they were using bio beds to purify their process air from VOCs that the production emitted. But they needed to expand their production, the operational cost were already high as well as the environmental requirements increased. All and all they had to review their air purifying system.

– We looked into several alternatives. One of them being recuperative incineration but the operational cost were way to high so it never became a real option.

They finally chose a zeolite rotor system from Zeotech and they also chose to recycle the surplus heat to warm up the facility and in the drying process.

– We don’t need any additional heating to warm the facility. It means that we save a lot of money in operation. The initial investment cost was higher but we have saved that cost in 2.5 years due to the low operational costs,

Scandiflex are counting on the system to be in operation for about 15 years.

– Yes, at least 10-15 years are we counting on. But I know several of Zeotech’s systems that are still running after 20 or more years. That’s a lot of saving in operational costs in the long term perspective,

Not only do Scandiflex pass the environmental requirement of 98% purification with a great margin, they have also decided to take on diffuse emissions in the facilities which in return adds to their environmental sustainability and enhances the working environment for their personnel.

Since the increased environmental requirements came, the availability of the system has also increased.

– we have an availability of 99,5 % which is significantly better than before. If we need to call Zeotech, they help us immediatley.

Scandiflex are so pleased with the system that they have allowed Zeotech to use is as a showroom.

– Yes, we have installed a separate door to them so that they don’t need to pass through production. We a simply very please, both with Zeotech and our decision, says Lars-Erik Borgkvist at Scandiflex.
